"Welcome to the Mr. John Cup. Mr. John, lives in Australia and started visiting the town of Tete Mozambique in 2007 with World Vision Australia. On each visit Mr. John use to visits the schools in the Marara and Tete and to celebrate the visit the schools would put on concerts, dancing, singing and conduct basketball, Volley ball and soccer matches.

In 2018, it was decided to introduce the Mr. John Cup, and teams were established in the Marara and Tete and have given great enjoyment to the communities.

In 2019, World Vision moved out of the area as the Community had achieved self-sufficiency however the Mr John Cup remains and continues its unfinished journey.

In 2024, the plan was to introduce two female soccer teams in the areas and for more teams being involved in the future.

Special thanks to the Provincial Governor, District Governors, Government Officials, Education Department and schools for their support.

So, enjoy and share the website as this unfinished journey continues ".

Location

The Mr. John Cup is hosted each year in Tete Mozambique and the Marara District.

Tete Province

Tete is the capital city of Tete Province in Mozambique. It is located on the Zambezi River, and is the site of two of the four bridges crossing the river in Mozambique.

Tete's 2026 population is now estimated at 482,002

District of the Marara

Marara is a rural district and agricultural settlement situated in the northwestern approximately 130 kms from Tete Province of Mozambique. Located north of the Zambezi River and the provincial capital city of Tete, it is primarily known for its farming landscape with an estimated population of approximately 82,500 residents.

Welcome to the Mr. John Cup webpage

Mr. John, lives in Australia and started visiting the town of Tete Mozambique in 2007 with World Vision Australia.

In 2018, it was decided to introduce the Mr John Cup in the Marara and it has given great enjoyment to the community.

In 2024 as part of International Children's Day two female soccer teams joined in.

The Marara District now has 15 school involved and 280 Mr. John Team members from Primary and Secondary Schools.

So enjoy the website and share with friends as we continue this unfinished journey at both schools and others join.

Dom Bosco Schools - Moatize

We are a Salesian Community, made up of 3 priests and two trainees, who seek to make Don Bosco's ideal present in the mission of Moatize, with a joyful and generous dedication to the service of young people.

There are many fields of action in which we operate: 3 schools (São João Baptista, São Carlos Lwanga and Dom Bosco da Cachoeira), 2 parishes and 38 communities, aspirant ate, 2 oratories and animation of groups and movements.

Horizonte Verde Tete

Horizonte Verde is part of the Cambridge School and it was great to see them participate in the 2024 Mr. John Cup.

It was also good to see female soccer teams involved also in the competition.

Professional school Dom Bosco, in Matundo (Tete)

Inaugurated in 2001 and located on the outskirts of the city of Tete, in the center of the country, it offers young people the possibility of preparing to enter the world of work in the specialties of carpentry, mechanical locksmithing, automotive mechanics, civil construction.
